Amelia Phillips
Amelia Phillips is a young artist who resides in Toronto. She grew up in Stratford where she started her artistic journey as a dancer, later exploring the world of theatre. Amelia is currently studying at York University to expand her skills and learn new mediums for expressing herself. In her first gallery installation with the Integrative Arts program, she combined her love for music and painting on canvas.
Amelia has always had a passion for fashion and enjoys expressing herself through her clothing. When she was younger, it was not uncommon to see her walking to school in her previous year's competitive dance costumes, as long as they fit the dress code. At the age of 14, she made Tutus for her and her friend's Halloween costumes, which sparked her interest in making clothes. She recently hand-stitched a full skirt for her 2023 Halloween costume, but this is the first dress she designed and made from scratch.

"It is said that something as small as the flutter of a butterfly's wing can ultimately cause a typhoon halfway across the world." - Chaos Theory
Every moment of our lives, regardless of how insignificant it may seem at the time, has the power to shape us into the people we are today. This project is an introspective journey, interweaving the threads of fate, chance, and consequence through the lens of personal experiences.
The purple dress acts as a tangible symbol, a canvas upon which my story unfolds. It reflects who I am and every aspect of the dress is imbued with meaning, reflecting the twists and turns of fate that have shaped my life. Through the photographs, viewers are invited to embark on a journey of discovery, tracing the echoes of the butterfly effect that have led me to where I am today.
"Lavender Legacy" is not just a project about a dress; it is a testament to the profound interconnectedness of all things and the beauty that can be found in the chaos of life. By embracing the complexities of our experiences and acknowledging the power of even the smallest actions, this project offers a poignant reminder of the legacy we each leave behind, shaped by the delicate flutter of butterfly wings.
