“Spectrum of Comprehension”

'Spectrum of Comprehension' is a process-driven art piece that delves into the complexities of understanding and perception. As a dyslexic artist, I navigate the realm of comprehension using unconventional methods. Utilizing Speechify to listen to PDF readings, I meticulously apply transparent, colored vinyl stickers onto six vinyl pedals, each representing a layer of understanding. These pedals culminate to form a skirt for an LED flower costume, symbolizing the culmination of comprehension. This piece encapsulates the time-consuming process of absorbing information, where repetition is key to grasping the entirety of a subject. Just as I must revisit texts multiple times to fully comprehend, the creation of this dress represents merely one-third of the study time required to understand the material for the semester. Additionally, the artwork embodies the challenge of conveying incomplete ideas. As a visionary thinker, I envision complete images and endeavor to materialize them in the physical realm. Yet, revealing these concepts prematurely often leads to misunderstanding, as others struggle to envision the final composition until the entirety is revealed.
