I crafted a unique collage using seven of my preferred 2019 issues of The New Yorker. Originally, the goal was to present a snapshot of significant pre-pandemic events. I selected The New Yorker as my canvas due to its rich content by renowned writers and artists. To enhance the collage's depth, I used six Van Gogh paintings as the foundation, each carefully chosen to complement the magazine contents and add colour. The arrangement was meticulous, resulting in a visually striking and intellectually stimulating artwork. I decided to change my original goal and go in a different direction and add a few more cut outs but keep the piece as abstract as it is because I want everyone to take away their own understanding and experiences from 2019. I want this art to not have one meaning but as many meanings as the people who lay eyes on it and ponder. This is meant to be abstract with no specific direction, representing just an ordinary year for ordinary people before an extraordinary pandemic.
